Texas Democratic Party Convention

With Barack Obama the presumed nominee of their national party, Texas Democrats are heading for Austin Thursday to begin deciding who really won all the state's delegates. I'll be right there as the party, bulging with neophyte delegates, learns the Texas Two-Step actually is a waltz across Texas, 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3.

Our focus will be on the Senate District 30 delegates, particularly those with a hankerin' to travel to Denver for the big shindig in September and on party Progressives as they work toward building a new coalition and take back the state.

Press Progress also will bring you teeny videos, pictures of the delegates and reflections on the usually high hat fun, intense resolutions debate, and glorious politicking that mark the Texas Democratic Convention.
Remember folks, hospitality suites generally are the first room to the left of the elevators on any floor of the convention hotel. Austin has a great taxi service, so have safe fun in the capital.

SD 30 delegates will gather to get credentials at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

This convention coverage is dedicated to Molly, Ann and Lady Bird. I bet they're laughin' hard with John Ferguson and John Henry Faulk and advising Billie Carr to enjoy it all a little more. So here's to you great women, progressives, journalists and die-hard patriots.

Check back frequently, at least by Friday, for updates. Also, if you're at the convention and know of an event, caucus or any kind of shenanigans that Press Progress should cover, just shoot me an e-mail at kismetacres@msn.com

Thank you for being our Kathy-on-the-Spot, 4th estate ambassador for all of us who are unable to attend the state convention. We know you'll be fair, truthful, and insightful. Have fun---and post early and post often, friend!

"It's coming from the sorrow in the street,
the holy places where the races meet;
from the homicidal b1tchin'
that goes down in every kitchen
to determine who will serve and who will eat.
From the wells of disappointment
where the women kneel to pray
for the grace of God in the desert here
and the desert far away:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

Sail on, sail on
O mighty Ship of State!
To the Shores of Need
Past the Reefs of Greed
Through the Squalls of Hate
Sail on, sail on, sail on, sail on.

It's coming to America first,
the cradle of the best and of the worst.
It's here they got the range
and the machinery for change
and it's here they got the spiritual thirst.
It's here the family's broken
and it's here the lonely say
that the heart has got to open
in a fundamental way:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A." ~ Leonard Cohen

Go Kathy!

We desperately need to take back the statehouse as well as the White House and Congress.

I think every Democratic candidate should be running on WHY a Tom Craddick led legislature gave us utility deregulation so we could pay 13 cent per kilowatt hour while REGULATED Oklahomans pay 7.5 cents a kilowatt hour and the utility companies in Oklahoma are STILL profitable!

We need to thank the Republicans in the Texas Statehouse and Craddick PROPERLY for 10 years of almost double rates by sending them packing.
